The Katie Kern Timeline

1973

  • Born in Vienna / Austria, but nonetheless of styrian stock.

  • Feral childhood in the austrian alps.

​

1979 - 1992

  • Rebellious schooldays

  • Intense piano lessons from age 6 to16 

  • She decides that classical music and sheet music aren't her cup of tea. Katie picks the guitar as her instrument of choice, and learns to play the Blues - without musical notation!

​

2002

  • Katie drops out of Ethnology and studies Jazz Guitar for 5 terms at Vienna Konservatorium (Fritz Steiner).

​

2000 bis 2006

  • Katie gets mentored by Oscar Klein and they tour europe for 5 years, until his tragic death in january 2006. She also teams up with musicians such as Al Cook, Axel Zwingenberger, Vince Weber, Joachim Palden, Peter Kern, Karl Ratzer, John Primer and Dana Gillespie.

2004

  • Katie, Karin Daym and Sabine Pyrker set up the Rockingbirds formation, specializing in Chicago Blues, Rock-a-billy, Swing and Boogie.

  • The Rockingbirds attend to various blues festivals – ranging from South Tirol to Rügen.

  • They play with stars, such as Oscar Klein, Hans Salomon, Al Cook, Chris Kaye, Martin Pyrker, and more.

2008

  • Katie succumbs to Country music – chicken pickin' guitar, influenced by Albert Lee und Jerry Reed, and travels to Nashville for 3 months.

​

2008 - 2016

  • Katie continues to move to Nashville for a few months each year, working with renown musicians and songwriters, while continuously developing her guitar style. Katie gets hired by a various bands and plays in many clubs, such as Layla's, Brown's Diner, Robert's Westernworld and Tootsie's.

2016

  • Studio Jobs for songwriter Bob Saporiti.

  • Back in vienna, Katie participates in a plethora of formationen, as versatile guitarist, singer, and technician.

  • Album "It is gonna work out".

2017 - 2019

  • Serious recording, songwriting, live performance in and around Austria

  • Recently got back into studying Jazz and french swing music

  • Official music video "Come Up With A Truth" (2020)
